Quentin Hindley studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (CNSMDP) with the Hungarian conductor Zsolt Nagy between 2007 and 2012, receiving first prizes in conducting, orchestration and analysis. He followed this with further studies with Pierre Boulez, Paavo and Neeme Järvi, Susanna Mälkki, Jorma Panula and Michail Jurowski.

The 2014-2015 season has marked a milestone in the career of the young conductor who, in September, made his debut with the Orchestre de l’Opera de Lyon, at the opening of the prestigious Biennale de la Danse. His extensive knowledge of and dedication to contemporary music earned him an invitation from the Orchestre National de Lille in October 2014, for the French premiere of Reflections / Reflections of Tristan Murail. In late November, Quentin Hindley was joined by pianist Alexandre Tharaud for two concerts with the Orchestre National de Lyon (Debussy, Grieg, Mantovani & Respighi) where he was Leonard Slatkin’s assistant conductor until last season: he has also conducted the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, Orchestre Symphonique de Bretagne, Orchestre Philharmonique de Marseille and the Orchestre Régional de Basse-Normandie.

This summer, he was Sir Simon Rattle’s Assistant-Conductor with the Orchestre des Jeunes de la Meditérranée, working towards the world premiere of Jonathan Dove’s new opera for the Aix-en-Provence festival.

2015-2016 will include concerts with the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, Orchestre National de Lille, Orchestre de Pau Pays de Béarn, Orchestre d’Avignon, and opera debut at the Opéra de Lille in June 2016.

Outside of France, he has conducted the Sinfonietta Berlin, Orchestre Symphonique de Miskolc (Hungary) and Orchestre Philharmonique Janáček (Czech Republic) and he will conduct this season the HEMU orchestra in Fribourg for a workshop focused on Thierry Escaich.

Prior to conducting, Hindley was a regular violist with the Orchestre de l’Opéra National de Paris and participated in more than forty productions.
